More classes, more work...
So I've been pretty good at posting once a month, usually...kind of...but I completely failed all summer. I'm not even going to promise you that I'll try to post more often because in all reality, I won't post more often than I feel like posting! (So philisophical, I know).
I feel silly always telling you about my classes, but since that's where I spend 30+ hours each week and 15+ on homework each week, it really is my life. :) I have two Spanish classes (a literature and a linguistics one). Literature I tried to take last spring, but because of a crazy schedule, the professor, and the difficulty/time comittment of the class I dropped it. That actually turned out to be a pretty great thing. I'm taking it with a different professor-Dr. Benjamin Torres (say it like this, "Ben-ha-mean) who is un poco loco! :) He's an older guy with wild, wild white hair/beard/mustache so long I wouldn't know if his lips turned blue (so hopefully it doesn't get too cold this winter). Anyway, it's nice to have a head start on the material and a much more laid back, understandable teacher. Linguistics is even better. It's a super great class. The professor is super fantastic and I love that I can read, listen and participate in class comfortably. Literature is hard because a lot of the stories are littered with dialectal comments and poetic words that I've never heard before, but in linguistics we're just reading a normal high school(ish) level textbook and it's actually pretty understandable!
Chinese is awful. I love love love love love Chinese, but it's nothing without a great teacher. I'm not going to gossip on here, but she's not a healthy woman. It's actually a bit scary.
And lastly I have two gen. eds: Ocean Systems and Stars and Galaxies. They're both extremely interesting though neither are what I expected. I love learning about the ocean and sometimes revert to wanting to have a career in geology/oceanography, but alas, language seems to come a little easier than math!
Work, of course, takes up about 12+ hours each week. It's pretty great because it doesn't have a reason not to be, it's the Rare Books Room.... I now can do full case/text block re-attachments and everything else conservation/preservation needs (I get to be the manager of pres. stuff). Ira's also working at the RBR now. He seems to be enjoying it, but feels making boxes doesn't quite measure up to making swords. It does seem, however, to be his entry in to all things medieval and interesting to him so I think he enjoys that part of it. And the part of having a laid back job, of course.
more to follow...there's too much to say for one night
