A Real Update. Finally.
So yeah, I finished spring semester with a 3.88 GPA. I was pretty excited about that. I'm taking three classes this summer, too so I hope to continue improving my GPA (after all, I've got to learn to keep up with Daddy!). It was decent after my freshman year, but there was also room for significant improvement. Goal #1 for summer 2011: 4.0 GPA!
Goal #2: survive May!!
Haha, currently I'm working 3-ish jobs and taking 2 classes. Classes are accelerated in the summer so we can fit two semesters in so class times are doubled and the number of classes is halved. It's interesting, but I like the concept of being done in 8 weeks. Plus, I'm really enjoying my classes so far. I'm in a communication theory class. My professor is great, I'm growing to like theory as a topic and being able to express my opinion on homework is a nice change. I also have Chinese calligraphy which is just NOTHING but fun! My professor is Dr. Wang whom I have known since day 1 at Western. He is also the guy who took us to China and is an extremely respected scholar in both China and the US. Anyway, it's going to be tons of fun! Here is a peek at my tools:

As for jobs this summer I am still working in the Rare Books Room about 21 hours each week. It's a little less this month because of job #2--working Medieval Congress. Each year (for the past 45) Western has held a huge conference on everything medieval. There is a lot of set up, tear down and front desk-hotel like work and that is what I'm doing. Set up was not fun at all, but I'm currently working the desk and it's pretty simple. The best part so far is listening to all the different accents. It seems everytime someone with a British accent asks something I want to reply with a British accent. So far, I have restrained myself, but it's a challenge, let me tell you! I'm bursting to try out my Hermione Granger impression!!
Thirdly, for the month of May only I'm taking over the babysitting contract for the family I talked about in an earlier post. Staci (the regular babysitter) is in Spain/Italy for the MONTH! so I will get out to be her temp for a while. I think it will be a nice introduction to the fall when it becomes a consistent job.
So that's just May! But it's including the Tiger's game that I get to go to with Ira and some friends. It's not including the new apartment that I'm subleasing for the summer with some really great girls. It's not including how much I'm missing being home pretty much every minute of every day! After moving into the apartment I feel like I've taken another step in the becoming independent process, but I haven't reached the point where it doesn't hurt to miss home so much. The way I see it, I can blame Mom and Grammie. If they weren't so great and would stop picking up super cute brand new baby kittens I wouldn't want to be home as much! :) (but really, please don't stop being so great!)
Other than allll of that, I can't really think of much more I can tell you. I'll try to keep up with the blog. I guess that had better be goal #3!

Oh, Syd! What a busy time for you!! I'm so grateful that Life is embracing you so hugely - it's the best time for it, and I know there's more to come. I don't know who else could handle it any better than you, so it must be your DESTINY - :)):) -- your parents prepared you well for it - they knew from the start they'd
have to!!!! Please, just one request? Postpone your trip around the world ( I know it's in your plan!) for a few years - I find myself hyperventilating just a little when your Mom tells me your long term plans!
You are missed even more here at home, but we sure wouldn't want you to be here and working at
Glen's - :) - and the kittens will wait for you, in fact, they'll be at Prime Mischievious when you're home next!
Love and Misses!
Grammie
